Alumni Spotlight

Paul Senory attended Leadership Brandon in 1997 THE BEST CLASS EVER! Since that time, 6 members of Sencomm Communications have also attended. He served on the board for two years and has sponsored the luncheon at MacDill for Leadership Brandon for the past 10 years. Sencomm is hay to be sponsoring Connie Small for this year’s class. Paul believes in what Leadership Brandon stands for and its mission.

Paul knew he wanted to become more involved in the community where he has lived for 26 years but didn’t know how. Leadership Brandon was his training class. He new nothing about the myriad of organizations in our backyard that work day after day, with limited funds, and in some cases, few volunteers, to look after those members of our community who are experiencing financial setbacks and/or health issues. He knew nothing about ECHO or the Brandon Outreach Clinic on Parsons, the Brandon Care Pregnancy Center and Cynthia Pinckney Ministries, just to name a few. Paul says he knew nothing about people experiencing bad times because he never looked beyond his personal life style. He always thought hat the Brandon community was up-beat and rather affluent. He thought everyone in the community had the basics we all expect. Paul says he didn’t know, because he didn’t take the time to found out, that we have too many people in our community who are going to sleep every night hungry and without shelter. There are too many people in our community who don’t have the resources to go to a doctor or fill their prescriptions. There are too many people who, for one reason or another, have fallen through the cracks and who have no idea how they are going to survive.

Paul says he had no idea how the Hillsborough County Commission functions. He knew that MacDill was there but no idea of the tremendous impact the base has on our economy, not the importance of their mission. He had no idea how our court system worked but he did learn that he didn’t want to spend any more than a couple of hours in the Orient Road Jail. He learned just how dedicated our Sheriff’s department deputies and realized that he had always taken their presence for granted. (How can you take someone for granted who is willing to their life on the line for you and your family’s safety?) He learned that he had to be more involved if he expected this wonderful community to continue supporting those organizations that are committed to helping the less fortunate. He learned that there is a lot more to this community than he ever could have realized had he not experienced Leadership Brandon. He then became active in the Brandon Chamber and the Greater Brandon Community Foundation.

Paul agrees Leadership Brandon has had a dramatic effect on how he runs his business, how he relates to his family and peers and how he became involved in the Brandon Community. He says, “It can do the same for you!”
